Tucked away on the plush and romantic island of Skeppsholmen, the hotel truly is the definition of a modern oasis. The renovated historical structure built in 1699 offers the best in both accessibility and exclusivity with a 10-minute walk from the bustle of central Stockholm, while also boasting tranquil unobstructed waterfront views, as well as the famed Olde Towne district.
Lounging in a deckchair at the Hotel Skeppsholmen with a glass of Akvavit, gazing over box hedges, fruit trees, lawns and the sea, you might think you were in the country – yet many of Stockholm’s major sights are only a short walk away (or in the case of the Museum of Modern Art, mere steps).
Minimalistisch und modern eingerichtetes Hotel in zweidenkmalgeschützen Gebäuden von 1699.
Hotel Skeppsholmen is the place to stay - especially for travellers with a conscience. Eco-labelled and a member of Design Hotels, this is more than your average hotel. The Modern, the Architectural and the East Asian museums are also a stone's throw away.
Stockholm’s city space and waters attest to its ecoconsciousness, representing “urban nature” at its best. This boutique hotel is uniquely located on a petite island in the centre of the Swedish capital.
Tops on my list is the Hotel Skeppsholmen, a 300-year-old building on an island in the middle of the city. This is a cake-and-eat-it-too location: you feel like you’re in the quiet of the countryside, yet you are within sight of (and steps from) downtown Stockholm.
I arrived at the hotel in the early evening and was welcomed by two (real!) ice sculptures and candle light along the pathway. The guy at the front desk was all smiles and very helpful. Oh and he was, like the entire staff, dressed by Swedish fashion brand Acne!
For my first trip to Stockholm, a city of islands and waterways, and capital of a country known for its sense of design, I wanted to stay at a hotel so Swedish that it would not be a surprise if members of the pop group ABBA would hang out there.
On a small, leafy island near city center, this 81-room property feels sleek and homey. Linger over tea on the patio and sample mushroom-stuffed poato dumplings at dinner.
Guests at the Hotel Skeppsholmen feel at one with the waterfront surrounding them on all sides. It’s almost like staying in a private nature preserve in the heart of the city. The hotel’s clean style and hip decor showcase the best of Swedish design, just as its award-winning Langa Raden restaurant offers a taste of modern Swedish cuisine.
Hotel Skeppsholmen is one of the places where Rodebjer stays when in town. In the summertime, she likes eating outside at its restaurant, Långa Raden, which serves modern Swedish cuisine made from fresh, local produce.
